Chiropractor

Dr. Himakshi Karwal, DC

Dr. Himakshi Karwal is a pediatric and family chiropractor providing gentle, nervous system–based care to support healthy development and resilience from infancy through adulthood. She grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, where her interest in the connection between the body and mind led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology.

Dr. Himakshi earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from D’Youville University and is dual board certified in the United States and Canada. During her clinical training, she completed an internship at a PX-based pediatric chiropractic office, which deepened her interest in neuro-focused chiropractic care and led her to obtain her PX Certification.

Outside the office, Dr. Himakshi enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and prioritizing her own nervous system health through movement and mindfulness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is craniopathy and how does it differ from craniosacral therapy?
Craniopathy is a post-graduate chiropractic specialty that works with the bones of the skull, upper neck, and jaw system to directly influence how the nervous system functions. For patients, that means we can address things most chiropractors cannot: feeding difficulties in infants, developmental delays, chronic jaw tension, headaches that start at the base of the skull, and nervous system patterns that do not respond to standard spinal care. Craniosacral therapy works in the same general area but uses significantly lighter contact and a different clinical model. Craniopathy is more specific, more structural, and backed by formal certification training that goes well beyond a weekend course.
Yes. For infants, we use very light pressure, often just a few grams, applied to specific areas of the skull, upper neck, and sacrum. It looks almost nothing like a traditional chiropractic adjustment. Most babies tolerate it well and many fall asleep during the visit. If your baby has a specific birth history or medical situation, tell us before the first visit so we can adjust our approach.
It can, particularly when the anxiety has a nervous system component driving it. Many people who struggle with chronic stress, poor sleep, or feeling constantly on edge have a nervous system that is stuck in an elevated state. Chiropractic care aimed at the upper cervical spine and cranial system can help shift the nervous system out of that pattern. It is not a replacement for mental health care, but for many patients it is a meaningful part of the picture.
Traditional chiropractic focuses primarily on spinal alignment and pain relief. Neurologically-based chiropractic uses the spine and cranial system as a way to influence how the nervous system is functioning. The goal is broader: better regulation, better development, better adaptation to stress. The assessment tools are different, the techniques are often lighter and more specific, and the patient population includes a lot of infants, kids, and people dealing with issues that go well beyond back pain.
